Lana Grossa 26 Men's Pullover in Cool Wool

What is Being Made

This is a classic men's pullover sweater from the Merino Edition collection by Lana Grossa. The design features a crew neck construction with raglan sleeves and is available in three sizes: 48/50, 52/54, and 56/58. The pullover is crafted from Cool Wool Mélange yarn in a sophisticated Grey/Brown Mélange colorway, making it a versatile piece suitable for everyday wear.

Knitting Techniques

The Lana Grossa 26 Men's Pullover employs a combination of traditional knitting construction methods:

  • Bottom-Up Construction: The sweater is built from the bottom upward, beginning with the sleeves and body pieces worked separately before assembly.
  • Worked Flat: The main body and sleeve pieces are knitted flat on straight needles, creating individual panels that are later seamed together.
  • Worked in the Round: The collar is worked in the round using a circular needle, allowing for seamless ribbing around the neckline.
  • Seamed Assembly: All pieces are pinned to measurements, blocked, and then sewn together using raglan, side, and sleeve seams for a finished, tailored appearance.

Stitches and Stitch Patterns

The pullover incorporates several fundamental knitting stitches and patterns:

  • Stockinette Stitch (St st): The primary stitch used throughout the body and sleeves, created by knitting on right-side rows and purling on wrong-side rows. This produces the classic smooth, V-textured fabric.
  • Ribbed Pattern (K2, P2): A 2x2 rib pattern used for the cuff ribbing at the sleeve openings and the crew neck collar. This elastic ribbing helps the garment maintain its shape and provides a snug, comfortable fit at the edges.
  • Knit/Purl Pattern: An additional textured pattern worked from a chart with a multiple of 4 stitches plus 2 selvage stitches. This pattern repeats over 8 rows and adds visual interest to specific sections of the design.
  • Full-Fashion Decreases: Shaping decreases are worked using the skp (slip, knit, pass slipped stitch over) technique at the beginning of right-side rows, creating a neat, fashioned edge during raglan shaping.

Raglan Sleeve Shaping

The sweater features raglan sleeves with graduated shaping. Sleeves begin with 62 (62, 66) cast-on stitches and are increased at each end using incremental spacing: increases occur every 3rd row initially, then every 6th or 8th row depending on size, building to 96 (102, 112) stitches. The raglan decreases are worked symmetrically at both ends of rows using full-fashion techniques, creating a sloped shoulder line that extends from the underarm to the neckline.

Materials and Yarn Specifications

The Lana Grossa 26 Men's Pullover requires 600 (650, 700) grams of Lana Grossa Cool Wool Mélange yarn. This yarn is composed of 100% pure wool and features a yardage of 160 meters per 50-gram ball. The mélange construction creates a subtle color blend in the Grey/Brown Mélange (color 115) colorway, adding depth and visual texture to the finished garment.

Needles and Tools

The pattern calls for size 4 mm needles for the main body and sleeve pieces worked flat, and a size 3.5 mm circular needle measuring 40 cm long for the collar worked in the round. The slightly smaller needle size for the collar creates a tighter gauge in the ribbed neckline, ensuring proper fit and elasticity.

Finishing and Assembly

The finishing process includes blocking all pieces to specified measurements before seaming. The raglan seams, side seams, and sleeve seams are sewn together to create a cohesive garment. The collar is picked up evenly around the neck edge—38 (40, 42) stitches along the back neck, 16 stitches across each sleeve, and 46 (48, 50) stitches along the front—for a total of 116 (120, 124
