Lang Leg Warmers – Knitted Accessory Pattern

What Is Being Made

The Lang Leg Warmers are a pair of knitted leg warmers designed as a cozy accessory. Each warmer measures approximately 12" x 13½" (30 x 34 cm) in the smaller size, or 12" x 15" (30 x 38 cm) in the larger size. This downloadable PDF pattern from Lang Yarns provides instructions to knit two identical leg warmers suitable for layering over shoes or boots.

Knitting Techniques

These leg warmers are constructed using bottom-up, seamless construction worked in the round. The seamless, circular knitting method eliminates the need for seaming and creates a smooth, continuous fabric. Working in the round on double-pointed needles produces a tubular shape that fits snugly around the leg without visible seams.

Stitches and Stitch Pattern

The leg warmers feature a Broken Rib stitch pattern, also known as a P2:K1 rib. This textured pattern is worked as follows:

  • Rounds 1–3: *Purl 1, knit 1, purl 1, repeat from * around
  • Round 4: Purl all stitches
  • Repeat rounds 1–4 throughout the leg warmer length

The Broken Rib creates a subtle vertical texture with alternating columns of purl and knit stitches, providing both visual interest and gentle elasticity. This stitch pattern is worked at a gauge of 17 stitches and 24 rows per 4 inches (10 cm) when using US 10 (6 mm) needles.

Construction Details

Each leg warmer begins with casting on either 57 or 63 stitches (depending on desired size) using US 10 (6 mm) double-pointed needles. The stitches are arranged evenly around the needles and joined to work in the round, with a marker placed at the beginning of the round. The Broken Rib pattern is then worked continuously until the leg warmer reaches 12 inches (30 cm) in length. The pattern specifies binding off loosely after completing a third row of the pattern repeat to maintain elasticity at the top edge.

Materials and Tools

The pattern calls for Lang Yarns Cloud, a premium yarn composed of virgin wool (merino extrafine), nylon, and treated for superwash and mulesing-free properties. One 100-gram ball in the colorway violet-green-blue (1077.0009) is required. Knitters will need a set of ADDI double-pointed needles in size US 10 (6 mm) to work the leg warmers in the round.

Finishing

After binding off, the pattern requires weaving in all yarn ends and optional blocking to shape and set the leg warmers as desired. The finished accessories are ready to wear as a layered accessory.
