Malabrigo Arroyo is a super soft, superwash merino wool in Malabrigo's gorgeous colors. The versatile sport weight is a great choice for finer gauge projects with beautiful stitch definition — perfect for garments, accessories, and more! Made in Uruguay.

Note: As with all hand-dyed yarns, colors may vary significantly from skein to skein, even within the same dye lot. The yarn color you receive may look different from the color pictured below. To ensure random color distribution, work from two balls of yarn at once, alternating a few rows from each ball.

Malabrigo Arroyo is produced in dye lots of 5. Any order for more than 5 skeins will be of mixed dye lots. Some colors do not contain any dye lots.

I purchased 2 skeins and didn't use them until November as I was really unsure what to do with a sportweight yarn (I've been working with fingering weight for most of the year). However, as soon as I cast on a hat, it was immediately clear that Arroyo is unique and wonderful. A month later I purchased 6 more skeins!

It has amazing stitch definition and a lot of that has to do with what a full and plump sport weight it is. I can think of no other yarn in dk or sport weights that has such bounce and maintains it after washing and blocking. It's also wonderful for winter items for when a worsted hat or cowl can become too warm. It's fantastic as a 3-season weight or for those working or coming and going indoors and outdoors who don't want to remove clothing each time.

The item I kept which I made is a simple hat in the English Rose colorway and I receive questions and compliments each time I wear it. Everyone so far has assumed it has silk or chenille fibers in it since it does have a slight and beautiful sheen.

The only downside is a couple of colorways I had wanted have been out of stock everywhere for several months. Malabrigo has an absolute winner here!

This is not the arroyo I know and love! Very splitty and thin, hopelessly difficult knit, but the worst problem is that it crocked (or bled) all over my hands. After knitting only five rounds, my fingers are stained black; this color did not come off after soaking in the tub and scrubbing it. As I planned to use it in a multicolor scarf, it's unusable because it would bleed onto the other colors and onto my neck and onto my clothes. I'll return the one skein that hasn't been wound. I guess I'll have to eat the other one, but I sure am unhappy! I do not expect products of this quality to be marketed by your company. And shame on malabrigo!

Comments about 18.40 Arroyo:

I purchased this yarn for the first time to knit a linen stitch cowl. The colors are beautiful and I receive a lot of compliments on my cowl. The yarn is soft and does not split - a pleasure to work with. I would definitely use this again and would recommend it to friends.

Among my favorites

Comments about 18.40 Arroyo:

I always enjoy working with this yarn. Easy to knit with and, for wearing, no problems with pilling even after a fair amount of use Holds up well to tearing out and reknitting. I use it single strand for scarfs and shawls, doubled for hats (knit on # 7's, which makes them dense and warm), and either single or double strand for sweaters. For colors with a lot of shading or variegation, doubling the strand evens out the color, useful in certain patterns. Arroyo definitely grows a lot with blocking but is somewhat minimized by using smaller needles when possible. With issues of growing, child rather than adult size sweaters are an easier fit.

    Comments about 18.40 Arroyo:

I use this yarn for wraps and shawls on a size 7 needle and it is the perfect look. It works up so beautifully and has great form. The texture is divine. Joining balls with spit splicing takes seconds and you have a PERFECT join!!! I honestly will use this yarn for anything. It is a sport weight but can easily be used for fingering or worsted patterns. Very versatile.

    Comments about 18.40 Arroyo:

Love this yarn! It is so easy to work with. I have used this for hats and scarves. Now using most recent purchase for a cardigan. Color consistency can be an issue when using multiple hanks on one project but I think it just adds to the overall beauty and uniqueness of the project and yarn. I have noticed minimal fading with washing but this also helps to mellow out some of the inconsistencies between hanks.
