Malabrigo Baby Silkpaca Lace is so soft and silky! This plied laceweight yarn is an opulent addition to Malabrigo's gorgeous line, a blend of light and soft baby alpaca and drapey, lustrous silk. Baby Silkpaca Lace is dyed in dazzling colorways with all the striking combinations and depth of color you expect from Malabrigo. Made in Peru.

Note: As with all hand-dyed yarns, colors vary from dye lot to dye lot. The yarn color you receive may look different than the color pictured below, and the skeins may vary one from the other even within the same bag. To ensure random color distribution, work from two balls of yarn at once, alternating a few rows from each ball.

Please note: Malabrigo Rios is produced in dye lots of 5. Any order for more than 5 skeins will be of mixed dye lots.

I bought 853 Abril - just gorgeous amethyst shade ! I am making crocheted shawl for my sister and I could not be happier with shine and drape that it is already showing in my work : ). This is the first time I am using this yarn and I was somewhat surprised with it's tendency to split, I guess that part is due to silk content. I am using very small hook size (2.00 mm), and that might be also contributing to finicky behavior of this yarn. However, all of the effort will pay off at the end, so I do not mind that this project will take somewhat longer time to finish.

The yarn has a nice feel, but color 'carrot' should have been named 'dark carrot' I found using sz 1 needles made scarf too small. Starting over with larger needles. Using the herringbone pattern; I like the border but guess a heavier wgt. yarn would work up better.

Beautiful, subtle color variation in lace weight yarn. I needed to use the yarn doubled for my sweater which is still a light, airy confection.

Pros

  • Good twist, nice drape, soft hand

Cons

  • Can't think of a single one

Best Uses

Comments about Yarn > Knitting Yarn Baby Silkpaca Lace:

I love this yarn! One of the very few alpaca lace weight yarns that is soft, but also has enough twist that I'm not fretting about it coming apart when used as warp. It is equally nice for knitting. Wonderful drape. Top quality at a reasonable price. The colors are beautiful, too. Even the solids have some variation throughout the skeins so that the color never looks flat. And the luster of the silk adds more dimension. Perfect not only for scarves and shawls, but also lightweight and luxurious, but affordable, tops and sweaters!

Comments about Yarn > Knitting Yarn Baby Silkpaca Lace:

I crocheted a shawl with this yarn earlier this year and am very happy with the result. Even though the yarn looks and feels soft and slightly fluffy, it does not shed which I think is especially essential with a shawl. In the meantime, I have bought the yarn in another colorway and am planning to make another shawl soon. A gorgeous yarn!

This yarn turned out to be too fine for the project I had in mind which wasn't lace.

I knit a lot of lace, and this yarn will be excellent for that.

        This is gorgeous stuff!

Comments about Yarn > Knitting Yarn Baby Silkpaca Lace:

I purchased this yarn to use on my knitting machine for a light weight sweater/jacket. Unfortunately I did not buy enough the first time around, so had to purchase additional. The dye lot was definitely different, but worked ok. The yarn has a great soft hand, knits easily and blocks well. The colors are very rich. Even when I ripped out the knitting, the yarn did not split.
