Malabrigo Silky Merino is a dreamy blend of merino and silk in Malabrigo's stunning colors. Create luxurious garments and cozy, yet sophisticated accessories with Malabrigo Silky Merino.

Malabrigo Silky Merino is produced in dye lots of 10. Any order for more than 10 skeins will be of mixed dye lots.
Some colors do not have any dye lots.

Hand-dyed yarns have subtle variations in colors that are natural and may vary from skein to skein.  There may be differences between pictures shown and the yarn you receive. To ensure the best results for your project:

  • Buy enough yarn for your entire project at one time.
  • When using hand-dyed yarn in your project work two rows from one skein and two rows from another skein to give an overall blended effect.

If you have any concerns about your hand-dyed yarn, please contact Customer Service for assistance in returning or exchanging your yarn.

I'm using this for a moebius shawl. The project has been tossed around for a couple of years. The yarn felts with work (it's about 1/2 silk) so I can do spit-joins but it hasn't compacted while I've made it wait.

The pattern is a garter stitch with simple lace at intervals (from a Cat Bordhi pattern). Although a single, it shows the stitches well. I find it easy to knit (I'm using a size 7 Addi Turbo Lace needle). The yarn does not have a tendency to split; it flows easily through my fingers and around the needles. I like the way its multi colors display; there is no striping (an effect I didn't want), and the "pooling" is small - maybe a two-row "pool" (I like pooling, but only on the right project and this isn't it).

I fully intend to work with it again. I think a new knitter could use it, as I don't find it takes any particular consideration.

The only "con" (and I don't think of it that way) is that I don't think I'd use it for a felting project - but there are plenty of yarns to use for felting and, given the next-to-skin softness of this yarn, I would rather use it for shawls, hats, scarves, and perhaps sweaters.

I bought 5 skeins. 3 were a tangled mess. I had to throw one of them out. The other 2 took between 1-2 hours to untangle. When I get my wool I just want to knit. A shame because the wool itself is beautiful - it feels more silky then wooly. Good for children, or adults, who don't like itchy wool.

The yarn is pleasure to knit with, soft yet substantial form, and the patterns available make beautiful pieces that I wear with pride and receive many compliments. It is fun mixing and matching the variety of colors available to create colorful knits.

Comments about MALABRIGO Silky Merino:

Beautiful yarn. Soft and gorgeous color and feel. Unable to wind the whole strand. Horribly tangled within itself. Hope that not all hanks r like that as I put the project aside for now

Comments about MALABRIGO Silky Merino:

Unfortunately I have not yet been able to begin my new project. HOWEVER, this yarn is so wonderfully soft and smooth, I really am anxious to make a start! I only purchased one hank so I could see what it was like and I feel certain that I will be adding more of this to my stash. The only reason I am not giving this 5 stars is because I have not actually worked with it.

Comments about MALABRIGO Silky Merino:

I have two Malabrigo Silky projects going right now. I love the feel and the "squishyness" of Silky. It offers good stitch definition and the colors, well, it's Malabrigo! The DK weight works well on anything from a 5 to 7 US needle. I find it curls a bit on a size 4 but I knit rather tightly so it might not for someone else!

    Comments about MALABRIGO Silky Merino:

It's too hot to work in wool. The silk blend and fine gauge makes this great for spring, even summer work. My hands are happy.
