What Is Being Made

The Noro Trivor is an intermediate-level knitted garment designed by The Noro Design Team. This pattern creates a fitted pullover sweater available in six sizes ranging from X-Small through 2X, with finished bust measurements from 35 inches (88 cm) to 55 inches (140 cm) and lengths from 22 inches (57.5 cm) to 25½ inches (65 cm). The design features a textured stitch pattern that adds visual interest and dimension to the finished piece.

Techniques Used

This knitting pattern employs several fundamental and intermediate techniques to construct the garment. Seaming is utilized to join finished pieces together, aided by the use of selvage stitches along edges that create clean, easy-to-work edges. The pattern incorporates decreasing through the slip, slip, knit (SSK) method, where two stitches are slipped knitwise individually and then knitted together to reduce stitch count. Yarn overs are worked to create new stitches and add texture to the design. The pattern also uses stitch markers to help track pattern repeats and important shaping points throughout construction. Knitters will work even (without shaping) across sections and follow both right-side and wrong-side rows with specific stitch instructions.

Stitches Used

The Trivor pattern centers on a Textured Pattern that repeats over 12 rows and uses a multiple of 8 stitches plus 6 additional stitches. This stitch pattern alternates between knit and purl stitches across rows to create a raised, dimensional texture. The pattern combines stockinette stitch (knit on right-side rows, purl on wrong-side rows) with the textured pattern sections. Slip stitches are used to pass stitches from needle to needle without working them, creating clean edges. The pattern also incorporates knit and purl stitches worked through their front loops to maintain stitch integrity and proper tension throughout the garment.

Materials

The Noro Trivor pattern calls for Noro Malvinas yarn in colorway #17, with yardage requirements of 3 balls (450g total) for sizes X-Small through Medium, and 4 balls (600g total) for sizes Large through 2X. Each ball weighs 150 grams. Two pairs of needles are required: US 7/4.5mm needles and US 8/5mm needles, with the larger size used to achieve the working gauge of 16 stitches and 24 rows over 4 inches (10 cm) in stockinette stitch. Additional supplies include locking stitch markers or small lengths of scrap yarn to track pattern repeats and shaping, and stitch holders to temporarily secure stitches during garment construction.
