Product Description
Rocha from Mode at Rowan – Collection 7 is a
stunning oversized women’s pullover knit in Kid Classic, a wool, and mohair
blend with a delightful fuzziness, soft hand, and just enough nylon for
durability, and Kidsilk Haze, which can be worked with one strand, or double or
even triple it up. The pattern includes the options of long sleeves or
sleeveless. Rocha is knit flat in pieces with both yarns held together from the
bottom up and then seamed. The collar stitches are picked up and worked in the
round.

Rowan 02 & 03 Rocha Knitted Sweaters
What Is Being Made
The Rowan Rocha pattern provides instructions for two distinct knitted sweater designs: a sweater with sleeves and a sleeveless sweater. Both styles feature shaped shoulders, structured necklines with collar details, and are designed to fit a range of bust sizes from 71-76 cm (28-30 inches) up to 152-157 cm (60-62 inches), accommodating multiple garment sizes for different body measurements.
Techniques Used
This beginner-friendly knitting project employs fundamental shaping techniques essential for constructing fitted garments. The pattern uses cast-off shaping to create structured shoulders and define the garment silhouette. Neck shaping is achieved through strategic decreases worked at the neck edge over multiple rows, allowing the neckline to taper gradually and sit properly on the body. The pattern demonstrates two-sided construction, where each side of the neck is worked separately after dividing stitches, ensuring symmetrical shaping on both shoulders. Stitch holders are used to temporarily secure stitches at the center front and back neck, which are later worked into a collar. The instructions include directional shaping with reverse shaping on corresponding sides, a key technique for creating balanced, professional-looking garments.
Stitches Used
The Rocha patterns utilize classic knitting stitches appropriate for beginner crafters. Knit stitch (K) forms the primary fabric structure throughout both sweater versions. Casting off (bind-off) is used extensively for shoulder shaping and finishing edges, with specific stitch counts provided for each size to create proper garment proportions. Decreases are worked at the neck edge to shape the neckline opening, typically reducing one stitch per row over consecutive rows and then on alternating rows to create a gradual, flattering curve. The pattern references collar stitches held on stitch holders at the center neck, which would be picked up and worked separately to complete the neckline finish.
Materials: Yarn and Needles
The Rocha sweaters are designed to be knitted with a combination of luxury yarns that create depth and visual interest. For the sweater with sleeves, the pattern specifies Rowan Kidsilk Haze in Drab 611 (25 grams) paired with Rowan Kid Classic in Clover 895 (50 grams), allowing crafters to work with two complementary yarn weights and textures. The sleeveless sweater version uses Rowan Kidsilk Haze in Bark 674 (25 grams) combined with Rowan Kid Classic in Bitter Sweet 866 (50 grams), offering an alternative colorway option. Knitting is worked on 5mm (US 8) needles, available as a pair of straight needles for flat pieces and as a 40-60 cm circular needle for working the collar and other sections. Stitch holders are required as essential extras for managing stitches during the shaping process, particularly when constructing the neckline and collar details.
