What is Being Made

The Rowan Beaded Kidsilk Haze Scarf is a luxurious knitted wrap designed to measure approximately 200cm long by 46cm wide when completed. This elegant accessory combines delicate beadwork with fine yarn to create a sophisticated garment suitable for special occasions or everyday wear.

Techniques Used

This scarf is constructed using seamless, flat knitting techniques. The design features a striped color pattern worked throughout the body of the scarf, alternating between three distinct yarn colors. The pattern incorporates beading as a primary decorative element, with approximately 3700 small grey beads integrated into the knitted fabric. Before knitting begins, beads must be threaded onto the yarn using a fine sewing needle and thread, then slid onto the knitting yarn as work progresses. The scarf is worked flat on straight needles and circular needles, with a separate decorative edging cast on and sewn to the top and bottom edges using slip stitch.

Stitches Used

The pattern employs a variety of fundamental and decorative knitting stitches to achieve its textured appearance:

• Knit and Purl stitches form the foundation of the fabric
• Yarn overs (yo) create openwork and lace-like details throughout the design
• Knit two together (K2tog) decreases stitches and contributes to the pattern structure

Materials

This project uses Rowan Kidsilk Haze yarn in three coordinating colors: Majestic (589) in Rowan's deep shade, Smoke (605) for a neutral tone, and Cream (634) for contrast. The pattern requires 2 x 25gm balls of each color, totaling 150gm of yarn. Knitting is worked on 3¾mm (US2) needles, including both straight needles for the main body and a circular needle for even tension. The beadwork requires approximately 3700 small grey beads that are pre-threaded onto the yarn before knitting commences. The finished fabric achieves a tension of 31.5 stitches and 36 rows over 10cm when measured over the pattern using the specified needles and yarn.
