What Is Being Made

Caspia is a versatile, light, and airy cardigan designed for layering. The garment features beautifully textured lace panels reminiscent of ocean waves positioned at the center Front and Back as well as across the Sleeves. The cardigan is available in six sizes, with finished bust measurements ranging from 35 ¾ inches (91 cm) to 54 ¼ inches (138 cm), and length measurements from 24 ¾ inches (63 cm) to 28 inches (71 cm). The design is intended to be worn with 0–1 inch (0–2.5 cm) of ease and offers a close-fitting silhouette, though fit can be customized by selecting a larger size.

Construction Techniques

Caspia is constructed using a top-down, seamless approach worked in one piece to minimize finishing work. This construction method allows for easy customization of sleeve length, as knitters can adjust the bracelet-length sleeves to any desired length during the knitting process, though additional yarn will be required for significant length changes.

The pattern employs both worked-in-the-round and worked-flat techniques. When working lace sections in the round, every row of the chart is read from right to left. When working back and forth, right-side rows are read from right to left while wrong-side rows are read from left to right. This dual-method approach allows flexibility in how different sections of the garment are constructed.

To avoid complicated shaping within the lace pattern itself, Stockinette stitch is strategically worked at the underarms of the Sleeves and along the sides of the Body, providing structural stability while the decorative lace panels remain the focal point of the design.

Materials and Tools

The suggested yarn is Universal Yarn Bella Cash, a premium blend consisting of 60% Fine Merino Superwash Wool, 30% Nylon, and 10% Cashmere. Each ball contains 230 yards (210 meters) and weighs 1 ¾ ounces (50 grams). The pattern requires 6 to 11 balls depending on the size being knitted, with the sample shown in size 35 ¾ inches (91 cm) worked in colorway #115 Peacoat.

Needles required include a Size 5 US (3.75 mm) circular needle measuring 24–48 inches (60–120 cm) in length, with the specific length depending on the bust size being knitted. Additional needles in the preferred style for small circumference knitting are also needed for working ribbed sections and other tight areas.
