Featured Design: Allium
What is Being Made: Allium is a fitted pullover sweater designed by Alexis Di Gregorio, available in six sizes ranging from 31 ¼ inches to 51 inches bust measurement. The garment is intended to be worn with ½ to 1 inch of ease, making it a close-fitting design suitable for layering or wearing as a standalone piece. Front length measurements range from 24 ½ inches to 27 inches depending on size.
Construction Technique: Allium is worked from the bottom up using a combination of flat and circular knitting methods. The hem sections are initially worked back and forth in rows on two separate pieces before being joined to work in the round as a single piece to the underarms. This hybrid construction approach allows for precise shaping at the hem while maintaining efficiency in the body. The front and back yoke sections are subsequently worked separately, providing tailored fit through the shoulders and neckline.
Stitches and Stitch Patterns: The pattern features a lace design that can be worked from either written instructions or charted format. The lace chart is worked both in the round and back and forth, requiring different reading directions depending on the construction method. When working in the round, all chart rows are read from right to left. When working back and forth, right-side rows are read from right to left while wrong-side rows are read from left to right. Slip stitches are worked purlwise with yarn in back on right-side rows and purlwise with yarn in front on wrong-side rows unless otherwise specified in the pattern instructions.
Materials: Allium requires 5 to 9 balls of Lana Grossa Linea Pura Solo Lino yarn, depending on the finished size. This yarn is composed of 80% viscose and 20% linen, offering a breathable and draping fabric suitable for warm-weather wear. Each ball contains 131 yards (120 meters) and weighs 1 ¾ ounces (50 grams). The suggested colorway is #003 Rose, a soft neutral tone.
Needles: Construction requires a size 6 US (4 mm) circular needle in 24 to 48 inches length, depending on the bust size being worked. An additional size 6 US (4 mm) circular needle measuring 16 inches (40 cm) is needed for working the neck edging. Needle size may be adjusted based on individual gauge and yarn characteristics.
