The Ultraviolet Wrap is a luxurious knitted scarf designed as an intermediate-level project. This wrap measures approximately 40.5 cm (16 inches) wide and 212.5 cm (83¾ inches) long, making it a generous accessory suitable for wrapping and styling. The design features a sophisticated color-blocking approach with a central panel and decorative decreases and yarn-overs that create visual interest throughout the piece.

Techniques Used

This wrap employs several key knitting techniques to achieve its distinctive appearance. The pattern incorporates decreases using slip-stitch-knit-pass-slipped-stitch-over (sl 1, K1, psso) and knit-two-together (K2tog) methods positioned at the edges to create shaping. Yarn-overs (yfwd) are strategically placed to form decorative eyelet details, particularly around a central marked panel. The wrap uses stitch markers to track pattern repeats and maintain accuracy throughout the lengthy construction. Stranded colorwork is employed when working with doubled yarn, requiring attention to tension to prevent loose floats. The pattern also specifies working yarn single and double at different points, creating textural variation. Pressing is recommended as a finishing technique to enhance the final appearance.

The wrap requires five coordinating colorways from this yarn line: Mint 693 (4 balls), Jelly 597 (2 balls), Olive 721 (1 ball), Alhambra 666 (2 balls), and Peacock 671 (1 ball). Each ball of Kidsilk Haze contains 25 grams of yarn. The project is worked on 4mm (US 6) needles, and the recommended tension is 20 stitches and 33 rows over 10 centimeters when measured over pattern using these needles. The wrap begins with a cast-on of 115 stitches and finishes with a loose cast-off to maintain elasticity at the edges.

Pattern Structure and Stripe Sequence

The Ultraviolet Wrap follows a repeating 36-row stripe sequence that combines color changes with textural variations. The base pattern repeat consists of 6 rows that establish the decreases, yarn-overs, and marker slipping that create the wrap's distinctive silhouette. Within this framework, the stripe sequence alternates between working yarn single and double, creating visual and tactile interest. Rows 1–4 use yarn B single, rows 5–6 use yarn A double, rows 7–10 use yarn C single, rows 11–12 return to yarn A double, rows 13–18 repeat the yarn B and A double sequence, rows 19–22 use yarn D single, and rows 23–30 continue the established pattern before completing the 36-row cycle. This sequence is repeated 19 times throughout the wrap, with an additional partial sequence of rows 1–16 worked once more before casting off.
