Product Description
20 Squares to Celebrate America’s Yarn Store Designed and Crocheted by WEBS Staff
The 40th Anniversary Crochet Blanket eBook from Valley Yarns is a collection of 20 afghan squares designed, written, and crocheted by the wonderful employees here at WEBS! We chose 4 colors of Valley Yarns Northampton to work with, required a 12” square, and gave everyone a theme of “What’s The Best Thing You’ve Made?” We wanted to show off how WEBS has enabled each of us to do our best work. Then we brought all the squares together with a ruby red color in honor of the ruby anniversary.
It’s been so amazing working with all the talented people who work here at WEBS. From all levels of experience, each square is a unique representation of the role of knitting and crocheting in our lives, and it’s stunning to see them all together.
In this ebook, the patterns for each square are given in the order they’re assembled, not necessarily in order of skill level, so we encourage the crocheter to read through the book and work the squares in the order they most prefer. Since tension varies from person to person, we provided the needle size each designer used to make their square, making it even more essential to check the gauge on every square to ensure they’re all the right size. Whether you work all the squares as written or add a few of your own, we’re so proud to have you join us in celebrating the anniversary of America’s yarn store with your own creations to cherish.

Valley Yarns 40th Anniversary Crochet Blanket
Project Overview
The Valley Yarns 40th Anniversary Crochet Blanket is a commemorative throw blanket composed of 20 individual crochet squares designed and created by WEBS staff members. This collaborative project celebrates the heritage and community spirit of Valley Yarns, America's yarn store, on its 40th anniversary milestone. Each square was independently designed and crocheted by a different employee, showcasing diverse skill levels and creative interpretations of the theme "What's The Best Thing You've Made?"
Construction and Assembly
The blanket is worked flat as individual 12-inch squares that are later seamed together to create the finished throw. The squares are assembled in a specific order as outlined in the pattern instructions. The completed blanket features a ruby red seaming color, chosen in honor of the ruby anniversary milestone. This construction method allows crocheters to work on manageable square units before joining them into the final blanket.
Design Techniques and Stitches
The 40th Anniversary Blanket incorporates multiple crochet techniques across its 20 squares. Lace stitching is featured prominently throughout various square designs, adding delicate, openwork elements to the blanket. The blanket also showcases stripe patterns, with squares utilizing a coordinated color palette of four Valley Yarns Northampton colors to maintain visual cohesion while allowing individual creative expression in each square's stitch pattern and design.
Materials and Yarn
The blanket is crafted using Valley Yarns Northampton yarn in a carefully selected palette of four colors, chosen for their complementary qualities and ability to unify the diverse square designs. The ruby red seaming yarn provides a finishing accent that ties all 20 squares together. Standard crochet hooks appropriate to the yarn weight are used throughout the project, with specific hook sizes determined by individual square patterns.
Skill Level and Pattern Organization
The patterns for each square are presented in assembly order rather than by skill level difficulty, encouraging crocheters to review the entire pattern collection before beginning. This approach acknowledges that the project includes squares of varying complexity, created by WEBS employees with different levels of crochet experience, from beginners to advanced crafters.
