  • Fiber Content: 100% Rayon from Bamboo
  • Weight: Lace
  • Gauge: > 8 sts = 1" on US 0-2
  • Weight/Yardage: 2100 yards/pound on ~1.25 lb cones
  • Care: Hand Wash, Dry Flat
  • Sett: 16-20 epi

5/2 Bamboo is a fantastic part of our Valley Yarns line! This 5/2 yarn has the deep, rich colors and the unique shine and drape of rayon from bamboo. You can feel good about the sustainability of bamboo, and you'll feel great about the look and feel of projects woven in this elegant fiber. Spun in Canada, dyed in the US.

Sett notes: Tabby, or plain weave, should be 16-18 epi in most cases. 18-20 epi is right for twill.  Although it is the same yards/lb. as 5/2 cotton, 5/2 bamboo behaves a little differently.

Care notes: On the first washing of dark colors or bright colors use a color catcher or dye magnet in the water.

5/2 Bamboo is also available in Natural.

Color Cards  and Color Books for this yarn are available.

$1.50 per cone charge for wind-off service (for fractions of a pound).

Yarns sold by the pound may have their quantity adjusted before the order is sent to reflect the actual weight of what is being sent out. Each cone is approximately 1–1.25 lbs and will cost approximately $29.99–$37.50.

Note: Some cones in the Hummingbird color have stickers on the inside stating 5/2 cotton. Please disregard these stickers, the yarn is bamboo.

I LOVE this yarn. I've now purchased at least 10 colors of the bamboo and have woven scarves for loved ones. It's a pleasure to work with. The final product shrinks about 10% which makes it softer and also look really finely sett, so plan accordingly. I'm currently working on a year long project to only *make* any new clothing for myself....using this bamboo fabric as a base (either woven or knit).

I was excited to get this yarn since I love bamboo, and because this product is from Canada. I was disappointed when I opened the box with many different colors and found that the yarn texture is uneven. It looked as if it was hand spun by a beginner. When I knit it up, it didn't have the sheen or softness of other bamboo I have. I have lots of it--bought it during the last big Webs sale, thinking it would be good for my higher end garments in a good variety of colors. Guess I'll need to find some other uses for it for my own wear, and go back to the product made outside of America for things I sell.

I ordered 2 cones of this yarn, red purple and grey blue. Both colors are just gorgeous. I have not made anything with the yet, but plan to use it as lace weight yarn. It feels very soft, and I believe it would work well making a beaded shawl. I am giving this a 4 only because I have not worked with it yet, but hope to do so very soon.

Using this to make a shawl. Purchase included helpful tracking and arrived on time matching pretty closely the color shown on screen. Great price for this fiber.

The product is amazing! Love the drape and feel of the shawl being knit. Bought 3 different colors and each are very true to color chart (on my iPad) and just gorgeous. Bamboo is slippery but not so much as to be a problem.

Comments about 5/2 Bamboo is also available in Natural. 5/2 Bamboo:

I used this yarn as warp for a long scarf project. I played with three wefts - one was another bamboo, another was a bamboo/merino wool blend (not from this site). Both were spectacular, and made excellent gifts. I have already recommended this yarn to friends weaving scarves. Also let me add that though I was skeptical about the sett recommendations on this site, they turned out to be spot on. Both plain weave and twill.
