What is Being Made

The Partridgefield Cowl is a generous, wearable neck accessory designed by Amy Herzog. This cowl measures 60 inches around and 11 inches wide, making it a substantial piece suitable for wrapping around the neck multiple times or wearing as a loose, comfortable collar. The finished dimensions provide excellent coverage and warmth for cool weather wear.

Techniques Used

This knitting project is worked in the round using circular needles, which creates a seamless, tubular construction. The cowl features striped colorwork throughout, alternating between a main color and a contrasting color in a carefully planned sequence. The pattern begins and ends with a textured ribbed section, with the striped sequence forming the main body of the cowl. Stitches Used

Materials

This project uses Valley Yarns Peru, a luxury blend yarn composed of 84% Baby Alpaca, 8% Merino Wool, and 8% Nylon. This fiber content creates a soft, warm, and durable fabric ideal for a cowl. The yarn has a yardage of 120 yards per 50-gram skein. The pattern requires 4 skeins of color 12 Ash for the main color and 1 skein of color 04 Red Maple for the contrasting color, providing sufficient yardage for the full 60-inch circumference.

Needles required are US size 8 (5.00mm) circular needles measuring 40 inches in length, or the size needed to achieve the specified gauge. Additional materials include a stitch marker for tracking the beginning of each round and a darning needle for weaving in yarn ends after completion.
