Pacific sport is a great choice for a baby sweater. I am using it to make the “Monday “ sweater by petite knit, which calls for one strand of merino 4ply held with one strand of mohair. I knit for a picky toddler who will not tolerate anything itchy or “too fuzzy.” Pacific sport fits the bill and knits up more like a light dk weight for me.
I knit a lot of baby sweaters , and I return to pacific sport all the time. I stock up when it is on sale. This is a lovely, soft yarn with elegant colors. There is a slight haze to it, and a light sheen. Stitch definition is not great, so stick to a simple stitch. I like to use it for color work. I used it to make the Debbie Bliss “little shepherd” pattern, and it was truly a masterpiece! I Swiss darned the sheep in the meadow, and that heightened the fuzziness of the yarn. Kids love it. I find that this yarn knits up like a very heavy sport weight, almost closer to a DK weight for me. So be careful, swatch it, and check your gauge, and do not try to combine it with other sport weight yarns in a color work pattern since it has a mind of its own. The fact that it is sort of in between weights works well if I am trying to make a larger size of a pattern designed for a lighter yarn. The Rowan “buddy” baby sweater pattern works well for this, and I have made that pattern in *********, sport and DK weights numerous times.
This is on my needles right now. Soft, sturdy & easy to work with. Haven't soaked or blocked yet, so won't know how the final product turns out until then.
Have used it before and loved it so I bought it again for my stash!!!
I'm using this yarn for a cables and brioche jacket. It's easy to work with even on large size needles and the mix of strands in the final ply is beatifully done. There are infrequent dots of the component colors which add to the overall lovely effect.
I am not a fan of super wash or acrylic yarn. I never buy it. I bought this yarn to use as a contrast color for a baby garment I made and it didn’t work. The yarn split often and it’s too flimsy. It is soft which is what is needed for baby garments but I would not buy this yarn again.
