Lopi Álafosslopi (Lopi) Yarn - Wool Chunky

I am making my husband an Icelandic style cardigan, using a pattern by Rebekka Kristjánsdóttir. I really like this yarn. A bit rustic and prickly, although I think a good bath of Eucalan and hair conditioner will help. However, it's meant for an outer layer so should not be a problem. Knits up really quickly, being a bulky yarn, also I'm having more luck with colorwork in this yarn than with worsted or DK because it's so fat and hairy--easier to carry the floats without puckering. It’s Icelandic Lopi. It’s the same as it was 40 years ago when I first used it. It’s like Cascade 220 or Lamb’s Pride or Spindrift. It belongs on the periodic table of yarn elements. AND the best news? It had t been ensh!t!fied. Yet.

Wonderful sturdy wool. Great for felting/fullering!

It’s truly bulky weight. I am using it for making Christmas stockings. I would love you to bring back more of the tweeds.

I finished my "Einstein" coat made with the Lopi yarn, and it is exquisite! The finished product exceeded my expectations. I ordered buttons from Stockwell ceramics in Cornwall, which accented the jacket to perfection. The yarn is wonderful to work with...I have knitted with it for years. This yarn works best for me when making Icelandic design sweaters, hats etc. Fuzzy, soft and very warm. Lovely natural colors.

I love working with Lopi Alafosslopi. It works up quickly, it's very soft, and makes a warm sweater. Lots of color choices too. After two weeks, I've almost finished the body of the sweater (the photo was taken. week ago).
