I bought this yarn for a Craftsy class "Top Down Icelandic Sweater". I wanted other colors than those offered for sale with the class. Webs offered plenty of colors. And when buying the amount needed for the sweater it came along with a fantastic discount. I saved over $15.00! It was also shipped very quickly for free. I will be back for more and highly recommend this company. No regrets!

I thought I would have problems knitting with this highly textured wool. I didn't have any at all. Frogging out stitches to fix a row or two did take a little finessing, but it wasn't the hardest I have come across. One plus to the wool is that when my needles slipped out of about 15/20 stitches, it was really easy to pick them back up. They didn't run at all, they just sat there waiting for me to notice.

After washing and blocking, the sweater really softened up a lot. Don't get me wrong, you won't get this confused with Merino. It isn't that soft, but it doesn't feel like a relative to Brillo anymore. I have heard from others that each wash will continue to soften it up.

The colorwork with this yarn is really nice and even. I was very happy that it turned out as nice as it did. I am now on my second sweater and loving this yarn even more. It is also really easy to spit splice and so I have almost no yarn ends to weave in.

My First Icelandic Sweater

I used this to make an Icelandic sweater. I liked that it is true Icelandic wool. There were some breaks in the wool and the join was not well done.

Wanted to make a true Lopi sweater for a gift. This yarn is the real deal, but not fun to work with. But she loved the sweater! Definitely will be wearing with an under layer- very scratchy.

Comments about 5.49 Léttlopi (Lite Lopi):

This yarn is very similar to Irish yarn from native sheep. Not soft, not drapey, and a little on the prickly side. But, if you want traditional yarn, warm, holds its shape, cuts the wind and repels the rain, this is it. I have knit several sweaters and coats from the heavier Lopi and love them. It is rather fragile when casting on, but knits up into a very sturdy yarn. Try it.

Comments about 5.49 Léttlopi (Lite Lopi):

Icelandic sheep wool is multi-textured: undercoats for softness and loft/warmth blended with the longer outer hair which add significantly to the intriguing texture of the finished knitted work. Lopi colors are very clear and offer a wonderful selection of both bright and natural hues, heathers and solids. A very good value for the price, Lopi yarns are among my long-time favorites for outer wear, throws, blankets and accent pillows. The Lopi Lite is just that, much lighter than the full Lopi, making it a good choice for medium weight sweaters or vests.

Comments about 5.49 Léttlopi (Lite Lopi):

I used this yarn to make a fox scarf as a gift and the texture enhanced the look of the scarf. The reddish brown color was not just a flat color which I liked because it gave the scarf some depth, made it look more like fur. The yarn is not the softest as it is wool but it was not super scratchy either. It did shed a little bit but not too much. I did notice though that the white was a little hairier than the brown which may be due to the dye so just keep that in mind. Overall a really nice wool! Although I just made a scarf with it, I could see it being used for many projects and easily felted.

While the yarn itself is lovely, the 2 skeins I purchased both smelled musty and mildewy. When I contacted Webs, I was advised to wash it...not exactly the response I was looking for. I had bought the same yarn in Iceland, and it certainly didn't smell musty there.

This is a lovely yarn. The color is much greyer than in the photo (which I actually like better). I love the variegated color. It's not super tightly spun, so if you're not careful you might stick your needle *through* the yarn. I'm hoping it knits into a nice sweater!

This yarn is not butter soft, it has a bit of variation thick to thin, and there's nothing like it for warm Icelandic sweaters. It works up nicely and will keep you toasty warm from fall to early spring - don't try wearing it after that or you will overheat!

Comments about 5.49 Léttlopi (Lite Lopi):

I have been wanting to knit an Icelandic sweater with the lite lopi for a while. I knit many of these sweaters in the 1990s using the regular lopi, but those sweaters can be too warm and bulky for regular wear. This lite lopi is what I hoped it would be, perfect for knitting traditional Icelandic yoked sweaters, but not so heavy. This yarn is not soft and not recommended for wearing next to the skin. It is "woolly", light and lofty and I'm sure it will be warm, but not too warm. The yarn is lightly spun. I'm looking forward to finishing my project and wearing it soon.
