I made a beautiful cowl with this yarn and it turned out beautifully. Colorway was perfect, knits up quickly, has a lot of stretch to it so the cowl can be worn close to the neck or drawn out to fall across the shoulders.

This was used for a gift sweater for a 4-year-old girl. I used Tosh's own Tea Leaves pattern. The colorway Fragrant was girly without being Barbie-ish, and the variegation worked well in the field of stockinette. The sweater has a pleasant sheen. Next time for a child I might choose a thinner yarn but that's just a personal preference.

The aspects that disappointed me: first, the dye does not penetrate the yarn. The core remains bright white, and when the exterior frays (which it did here and there, like on the buttonhole) the white is very visible. For that I deducted one star.

Second, Tosh seems to turn knots into stiff lumps with some sort of hard cement glue. They're inflexible to knit, and sharp against the skin. I couldn't just knit those in. A regular knot would have been better because you can see it and plan where you'd want to join yarns in a given row. All balls had at least one knot and one ball had a few, at inconvenient places. That cost a second star.

I'd still choose this yarn for another project; one where knots could be worked in nicely, and the pattern makes it easy to combine balls which may be dyed quite differently. I'd order way more yarn than necessary, so I could have enough of a particular shade (same colorway but different balls) if needed. I'd wind the yarn slowly to find the knots, and break the skein at those points.

Comments about true Tosh Vintage:

I like this yarn very much because it knits well and I like the color blend. I first bought it from a small shop and then from here. I love the colors, but in order to not look like you have water marks on you blanket or sweater you will have to work 2 hanks/ balls at a time and change out through out.

I have made children's hats sweaters and scarfs with tosh vintage. It is the softest yarn next to Malabrigo. The colorways are gorgeous.

Working with this yarn is a lovely experience, beautiful color, feel and stitch definition. I tend to prefer wools that are not superwash but if that is what you want this is a great one.
