Stitches and Techniques Used

The Penthia Set employs a repeating pattern stitch that creates textural interest throughout all three pieces. The pattern stitch varies depending on whether it is worked in the round or in rows.

For circular knitting (Hat and Cowl): The pattern stitch is worked over a multiple of 4 stitches and repeats over 8 rounds. Rounds 1, 2, 5, and 6 alternate knit and purl stitches in a K1, P2, K1 sequence. Rounds 3 and 4 are worked entirely in knit stitch, while rounds 7 and 8 are worked entirely in purl stitch. This creates a balanced textural design with alternating knit and purl sections.

For flat knitting (Mitts): The pattern stitch is worked over a multiple of 4 stitches plus 2 edge stitches. Row 1 (right side) begins with K2, then alternates P2 and K2 across the row. Row 2 (wrong side) reverses this sequence, beginning with P2 and alternating K2 and P2. This creates a classic ribbed appearance when worked in rows.

The hat is constructed using circular needles and double-pointed needles for the crown shaping. The mitts are worked on double-pointed needles with waste yarn used to hold thumb stitches for later pickup. The cowl is worked flat on straight needles and seamed.
