Yarn.com Reviews: What Knitters and Crocheters Say

You said it

In customers' own words · 6 min read

We ask for a review after every order ships, and thousands of knitters, crocheters and weavers take us up on it. We read through each and every one, and here is what you say about ordering from Yarn.com — not the yarn itself, but the experience: the shipping, the service, the stock, and the color that has to be right the first time.

If you are deciding whether to order your next sweater's worth of yarn from us, this is the page to read.

The short version

  • Customers praise the people first — a lost package or a short skein gets sorted out fast.
  • Shipping speed comes up unprompted, usually from someone racing against a deadline.
  • The depth of the selection is the other constant: weight, fiber and colorway, in stock.
  • Every review below comes from a verified order, quoted as written.

Key Takeaways

  • You reach a real person. When something goes sideways, you get a real person who sorts it out fast — usually the same week.
  • We keep your dye lots together. You notice when a multi-skein order arrives all from one lot — because your sweater depends on it.
  • Fast shipping matters when you have a deadline. Whether it's a knit-along, a baby shower, or a holiday gift, your reviews show just how much on-time orders truly matter.
  • There's nothing worse than running out of yarn mid-row. Keeping your favorite colors fully in stock is how we make sure your project never gets put on hold.
  • We'll help you find the right substitute. Send us your fiber, gauge, and yardage questions and you'll get a real answer from a real knitter — never a link to a chart.

“The customer service was really great”

You said it

The thing knitters and crocheters write to us about most often isn't a yarn at all. It's what happened when something went sideways — a package lost in transit, an order a skein short, a dye lot question two rows into a sweater.

“Great customer service”

My first shipment was lost in the mail. I contacted customer service by email. They replied quickly and remedied the situation quickly. I'm very happy with the customer service.

The order was short one skein, but it was quickly resolved with delivery of the missing skein.

“Perfect yarn for a special project”

The response was fast, and the product was well packaged. All the yarn came from the same dye lot, which was the most important. I am using it for an afghan for my grandson to bring to college. School colors.

Yarn that shows up before you need it

Out the door

Nobody asks our reviewers about shipping. It comes up anyway, usually from someone racing against a knit-along deadline or a baby who arrived early.

“Beautiful colors and top-notch quality”

I made hats with it. Such beautiful colors of bulky weight yarn. It is so soft with a really nice squishy feel too. The ordering process was so easy. The delivery was very quick and packaged well to protect my purchase. The quality is top notch. I've ordered two times within close to a month's time and I know I will be ordering again and again. Highly recommend!!

“Perfect match for my project”

I have a stash of this yarn, but of course, I ran out of one of the colors I needed. I received it quickly so I could finish my knit along on time. It’s easy to add to another yarn, I love the colors and the soft halo. I usually use fingering or sport yarns, non-superwash wools. What I really needed was to match the gold color weight-wise, and it did the job. Sure did!

In stock, and easy to find

The wall of yarn

There is a particular kind of relief in finding the exact weight, fiber and colorway a pattern calls for — and then finding it in stock. Reviewers describe the search as much as the yarn.

“Malabrigo for the win, again.”

This is fabulous yarn. It is easy to find on your website, the inventory I needed was in stock, and the delivery was fast. Is being used to knit the Finest Kind sweater by Alicia Plummer.

“Great yarn selection for weaving”

I'm using it for a scarf. I order all of my weaving yarns from Yarn.com. When I built my fiber studio, I began adding yarns by size and color until I have the full range of colors and several sizes of threads. At the time of ordering, I added the 10/2 cone because my current cone was low and it had not been available for awhile. So when it was available, I added it to my order when ordering other cones of different sizes.

“Great yarn for baby blankets”

I’ve used Encore on a number of baby blankets. I like the price point for when I need several colors. It’s easy to work with, and it is machine washable. I love the vast selection of colors.

Even when there isn't one nearby

Your local yarn shop

A lot of our customers don't have a local yarn shop (LYS) to walk into. That's why we work so hard to get every detail right — from exact colors on your screen and reliable yarn substitutions to fast, dependable delivery right to your door.

“One of my favorite online yarn stores”

I live very rural and I enjoy knitting. There are no local yarn stores near me so I rely on Webbs (yarn.com) for most of the yarn I buy. I’ve never had a single complaint.

What If Something Goes Wrong?

It happens — a box goes missing, a skein is short, a color reads differently on your screen than in your hands. Your reviews are the honest record of how we handle it: an email answered quickly, a replacement sent, a return taken care of without a fuss. The complaint we hear most often isn't about service at all — it's that a favorite colorway sold out before you could grab one more skein.

A tip from the yarn wall: Buying yarn for a sweater? Order one more skein than the pattern calls for, and order it all at once so every skein comes from the same dye lot. Unused full skeins can come back; a dye lot that has sold out cannot be recreated.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are Yarn.com reviews real?

Yes, and they're tied to orders. The review request goes out after your package ships, so every reviewer is a verified buyer who had the yarn in hand. We don't trade discounts for reviews and we don't delete the critical ones — which is why you'll find honest complaints on our product pages.

How fast do orders ship?

Most orders leave our Massachusetts warehouse within a business day or two, and reviewers routinely mention packages arriving ahead of the estimate. If you're working to a deadline, order the full quantity at once rather than in pieces.

Will all my skeins come from the same dye lot?

We pull multi-skein orders from a single dye lot whenever the stock allows, and reviewers tell us when we get it right. If an exact match matters — a solid-color sweater or blanket — say so in the order notes and buy a spare skein up front.

Can you help me substitute a yarn a pattern calls for?

Yes. Match the weight and yardage per skein first, then fiber and gauge. Our product pages list weight, fiber content and yardage on every yarn, and customer reviews are often the fastest way to learn how a yarn actually behaves in a specific stitch pattern.

What if the color looks different than it did online?

Screens vary, and hand-dyed yarn varies more. Unwound, unused skeins in original condition can be returned — and reviewers who order a single skein to check the color before committing to a sweater's worth are doing the smart thing.

How do I leave a review?

Use the link in your post-delivery email. It's a short guided conversation rather than a long form, most take under two minutes, and photos of your finished project are very welcome.
