BabyCocktails Blackberry Bramble PDF

Blackberry Bramble from BabyCocktails is a cozy cowl and a great excuse to pair up some colors. The motif comes from MaryJane Mucklestone’s directory of 150 Scandinavian Motifs, which is a great resource for anybody wanting to play with colorwork. The design is reminiscent of Moorish tile, and it is absolutely addictive to knit. It’s a simple design, with just a few subtle tweaks. The length of the colorwork sections are off kilter so they don’t match if lined up, and they alternate the solid colors to create additional contrast. Plus, there’s a little pop of a third color for a tiny surprise!

Finished Measurements: 16” wide x 43.75 (51.25)” around
Yarn Requirements: 300 (400) yards each in two colors of aran weight yarn, plus oddments of a third color; Shown in The Plucky Knitter Primo Aran (WEBS does not carry)
Needle(s): US size 7 & 8 (4.5 & 5mm) circular needles (or size to get equal gauges)
Gauge: In colorwork motif, each repeat of chart (on larger needles) = just about 1.6” wide/1.75” deep; 5 sts & 7 rows = 1” in St st (making sure colorwork/stockinette gauge is equal to each other is more important than getting exact gauge or width measurement given above, play with needle size if necessary)
