Gauntlets are a study in contrasts. Worked in the round, each begins at the
Beech Leaf Lace patterned cuff and transition to k1, p1 rib at the inside wrist
for a snug fit. At the onset of the rib, the herringbone pattern begins at the
back of the hand, continues as the thumb gusset and palm are worked in stockinette
stitch, and carries on to the hand's rem. Then the fingers are worked in stockinette
stitch palm-side, and herringbone continues on the public side. The thumb is
worked entirely in stockinette stitch Fingers, and thumbs are worked in the
round on double-pointed needles. The lace pattern is charted and written out.
Size: One size to fit a women’s M
Finished Measurements: 7” circumference and 8” long,
after blocking
Yarn Requirements: Approximately 225 yards of fingering
weight yarn such as Valley Yarns Huntington (75% Superwash
Merino Wool/ 25% Nylon; 50g/218yds)
Needles:
US 0 (2.00mm) DPNs
US 1 (2.25mm) two 16” circular and
DPNs
Gauge:
30 sts & 42 rnds = 4” in stockinette
stitch on US 1 (2.25mm), after blocking
32 sts and 38 rnds = 4” in herringbone
