I'll admit it - I bought this primarily because of all the negative reviews. I thought, "It's Webs! They CAN'T offer that horrible of a product...can they?"

Short answer? No they didn't, because it isn't.

Details? All right. Despite not being my favourite colour, I bought the Pinkie, because if it failed, I wanted it to fail hard. It didn't. Upon arrival, I opened the package to find a cheerfully bright skein of sock yarn, lightly variegated between pale and dark pink, mostly toward a shade of Bright Raspberry. Upon untwisting the skein, I found the yarn had an even, durable feel, with the dye well saturated - no undyed or underdyed areas, not even under the skein ties. I twisted and wadded it, but aside of some catching on my admittedly battered fingers, it did not catch, bind, or felt. Upon winding it, I found no drastic thin spots, nor any unusual amount of shedding.

Knitting a small swatch showed two things - one, it knits up easily and with a pleasing fabric, and two, it frogs easily and without damage. (Three things, really - no dye bleeding onto my fingers!)

Now. Is it cashmere-soft? No, of course not - the base product is a superwash wool, not cashmere and silk, nor even merino. But. I purchased it with the intent of making socks that won't bag, stretch, or wear thin after a couple of weeks, and after giving it a firm test, I think this will do the job nicely. You may not like this product if you're looking for something cushiony soft against the face, but if you need a durable, hard-wearing sock, this is what I'd recommend.

And despite being almost obnoxiously pink, it's so darned CHEERFUL, I almost hate to put them into work boots!

I devoutly hope Ms. Roo dyes more of this product, because I for one will definitely buy it.

I am a knitter and jewelry designer, so when I see a magnificent color combination in yarn it's hard to resist. I saw the Macaw in the fall catalog and rushed to find it on the website. The picture showed a wonderful combination of rich fuschia, aqua, and lime, with hints of rust. Wow!

What I actually got was a gaudy orange-red and brick red, teal, and a mix between pea- and forest-green with lots of muddy color-bleed. I am SO disappointed.

The yarn feels a little coarse, but other than that I'm sure it's a prefectly acceptable sock yarn, but I am heartbroken about the misrepresentation of the colors. I get that hand-dyed yarn varies, but this isn't even close.

Comments about false Franklin Hand Dyed by the Kangaroo Dyer:

I bought the "Pinecone" color of this yarn some time ago and just started to knit with it last night. To say I'm disappointed in the color and quality of the yarn is an understatement.

The color, looked great on the skein, but it's knitting up as one of the most ugly muddy brown messes I've ever seen. It's absolutely hideous. I honestly don't know if I'll even finish the socks I'm trying with it, the yarn itself is so coarse it actually feels crunchy to knit with. Totally a result of the dying processes. There's no way this is going to soften up and be comfortable to wear.

If I hadn't bought it so long ago, I'd return it in a heartbeat.

The yarn itself is soft and easy to work with, but the color was nothing like what is shown. I was expecting a slate gray and received a deep black with undyed spots. I was disappointed - would not buy again for a specific project.

Comments about false Franklin Hand Dyed by the Kangaroo Dyer:

This yarn is truly a nice yarn. I gave it only an average rating because of the colorway. I purchased Pine Cone and the colors on the computer were so much more vibrant than what they are in reality. I purchased this to make a scarf; but I haven't found the right stitch to play up the mottled colors. Other than that, it's soft, easy to work with and stitches up nicely. It's simply the color I'm not fond of.

When the yarn arrived I was a bit disappointed because it was darker and the texture more course then I expected, but I'm so glad I stuck with it. It knit up nicely, and after blocking the yarn softened up. Now that I've worn the socks a few times I'm even more impressed. They haven't pilled and have kept their shape.

Very disappointed with this purchase. The color ahown for Frog in a Partydress is an adorable light green, girly pink, with some yellow orange blend areas. This was to be a sweater for my toddler daughter. What I received was a green, crayon red, and rust yarn. Just yuck. The yarn is much coarser than any other sock yarn I have in stash.

Webs delivery was prompt as always, but I truly regret this purchase.

The subtle color changes in this yarn create stripes in socks about every two rows. What is the most "cool" thing about the dying is how outrageously gorgeous theule and acids green are!
