*This class fulfills the Crochet 1 Requirement for WEKP.

Crochet as we know it goes back to the 1800’s. The popularity of this adaptable craft for handmade fashion forward clothes and accessories, home goods, and toys has continued to grow each season for the last decade. This craft offers many different techniques, stitches, and ways to put it all together.

There is always something new to learn in crochet. There are hundreds of interesting and satisfying small scale portable projects ranging from hats to handbags to hedgehog plushies. Crochet has a long history as a technique for trims, edgings, and embellishments, Today, this is a valuable resource for other crafts such as knitting, weaving, and sewing.

The simplicity of this craft is refreshing. A hook, some yarn, and a few basic accessories are all you need to get started. When you find a technique or a stitch pattern in crochet that you like, a lot of patterns are easy to internalize. and make again and again with speed and confidence. Repetitive motions and pattern repeats of simple patterns can be very meditative. For those who enjoy something more challenging in a hobby, complex patterns allow us to focus completely on something apart from our daily lives. However, crochet is not relaxing or restorative if you’re frustrated or confused most of the time! A good foundation in the basics of crochet is the best way to get started.
