*This class fulfills the Design Exploration Requirement for WEKP.
Together we will design hats, learning about all aspects of the 15 main hat constructions. We will study the different types of brims, the impact of increases and decreases on different shaped hat bodies, and go over many different types of crown shapings. We will learn the math formulas that help determine shaping, how to figure out gauge for hard to measure patterns, and even touch briefly on how to size our hats into different sizes in order to make them fit whomever we want to make them for. Appropriate for those looking to design hats professionally as well as for those just wanting to design hats for their friends and family, students will walk out of the final class with at least two finished original hats, plus an understanding of how to make more!
You will receive the Zoom link 1-2 business days before the virtual class.

I would recommend this class to anyone who wants to learn how a well-fitting knitted hat is constructed. Our teacher Nina Machlin is wonderful. She teaches you the basics of design, how to calculate the hat and most importantly how to achieve a crown that looks good and fits well too. We also cover the many different styles of hats and how to begin the design of many of those hats. She encourages engagement in the class between herself and the students and between the students also. I also appreciate that this particular session is smaller in size and for me there has been the feel of almost a 1-1 session with time for questions and answers.
