Jen Lucas Designs Capten has a beautiful story that explains the name given to this lovely shawl. Jen’s friend and sample knitter, Jenni, took it with her on a recent European vacation. Before takeoff on one of her flights, she was informed that knitting needles were not allowed on the plane (OMG, the horror!). The shawl went to the cockpit for the flight with the joking promise that the captain would have it complete by the end of the flight. The lace pattern is charted and written out.
