Nina
Machlin Dayton Belle Greene is a shawl that combines two lace patterns that
were popular during the Gilded Age in which Belle began her incredible career. Belle
Greene can easily be made larger or smaller, and the shawl can be tailored to fit
the needs of the individual knitter. It has beads—the always stylish Belle
would have welcomed a bit of sparkle—and provides just enough warmth to keep
the chill off the shoulder of any librarian, or library patron, browsing in the
stacks. The lace patterns are charted and written out.
