Product Description

Noro Amodine is a flattering women’s vest in twisted ribs knit in Kureyon. The twisted rib adds definition to the vertical lines created by the stitches and a relaxed shape that looks good on everyone. Amodine is knit flat in pieces from the bottom up and then seamed. The neckband stitches are picked up along the neck edge worked in the round. Noro Kureyon is the original self-striping yarn. It is incredibly popular year after year, and it’s easy to see why! Each skein of Noro Kureyon is a multitude of natural colors, and no two projects will look exactly alike.

Noro Amondine Vest

Project Overview

The Amondine Vest is an intermediate-level knitting pattern designed to create a classic waistcoat in multiple sizes ranging from X-Small through 5X. This downloadable PDF pattern offers finished bust measurements from 38 inches (96.5cm) to 70 inches (178cm), with corresponding length measurements between 24½ and 28 inches (62 to 71cm), making it suitable for a wide range of body types.

Construction Techniques

This waistcoat is constructed using a combination of knitting methods to achieve its finished garment. The pattern employs bottom-up construction, meaning the vest is knitted starting from the lower edge and working upward toward the shoulders. The garment is worked flat on straight needles for the main body sections, with portions also worked in the round using a circular needle for seamless shaping. The finished pieces are then seamed together to create the complete waistcoat structure.

Stitches and Stitch Techniques

The Amondine Vest utilizes fundamental knitting stitches and techniques appropriate for an intermediate skill level. The pattern incorporates the following stitch manipulations:

  • Knit and purl stitches as the foundation for the fabric
  • Make one increases (both knitwise and purlwise variations) to shape the garment
  • Slip, slip, knit (SSK) and slip, slip, purl (SSP) decreases for structured shaping
  • Slip stitches used as selvage stitches along edges to facilitate easier seaming
  • Stitch markers placed to track pattern repeats and shaping points
  • Pick up and knit/purl techniques for adding stitches along finished edges
  • Chart reading including interpretation of "no stitch" spaces where stitches have been decreased or not yet created

Materials Required

The Amondine Vest is designed to be knitted with Noro Kureyon yarn in colorway #447. Yardage requirements vary by size, ranging from 6 skeins (300 yards total) for the smallest size through 12 skeins (600 yards total) for the largest size, with each skein weighing 50 grams. The pattern calls for US size 10 (6mm) needles, including one straight needle or pair of straight needles for working flat sections, plus one 16-inch (40cm) circular needle for working in the round. Gauge should be verified by knitters to ensure proper fit across all nine size options.
