*This class fulfills the Non-Knitting Elective / Wild Card Elective Requirement for WEKP.
This lecture/demo class is designed to walk students through a myriad of yarn types and educate them on the reasons to choose or not to choose certain yarns for specific projects.
Coned yarns, wools, superwash wools, cottons, linens, acrylics and blends will all be discussed.
Learn which reed to use for different weights (thickness) of yarn as well as how to treat the weaving (beat, tension) for specific yarn fibers. Students will receive samples of each yarn discussed to have for future reference. In class, the samples will be labeled by type, content, weight and how many ends per inch to set each yarn for a successful project. Finishing (washing) techniques for various fibers will also be addressed. Handouts will be provided for each student.
There will be a loom set up in class for students to explore how to make a sample before weaving a project.
For the comfort and safety of our students and teachers, students may be asked to wear a mask during in person classes and workshops, and masks are available upon request.
