Comments about VALLEY YARNS 6/2 Unmercerized Cotton:

The dark gray is really more of a steel blue. Other colours are true to name.

      Very Softly Spun

      By

      from San Francisco, CA

      Verified Buyer

      Pros

      • Great colors
      • Soft

      Cons

      • Probably wouldn't use for warp.
      • Pulls apart easily.
      • Too softly spun for towels?

      Best Uses

      • Blankets
      • Cuddly things
      • Scarves

Comments about VALLEY YARNS 6/2 Unmercerized Cotton:

This yarn is very nice, but if you're looking for a thicker version of traditional unmercerized 8/2 cotton, look elsewhere. This yarn is softly spun...very loose fibers. Nice, but probably not for towels.

I love this yarn. I used it to make the XOXO Baby Blanket draft; after wet-finishing, it was beautifully soft. Made a wonderful blanket.

        Best Uses

Comments about VALLEY YARNS 6/2 Unmercerized Cotton:

I wanted to weave correct tartan in twill but yarn insisted on exactly right sett. Several samples forced me to 18 ppi McLeod yellow & black is very unforgiving!

I am a professional clothing weaver and am happy to see this weight in an mercerized yarn. I have had no issues using it as both warp and weft. The colors are just lovely and it has a soft hand.

              Best Uses

              • Not Towel Warp

Comments about VALLEY YARNS 6/2 Unmercerized Cotton:

Initially excited about the new yarn, I am on my first towel warp and have had 3 threads break which does not happen with the 8/2.

It seems to be a loosely spun yarn which may contribute to the more fragile nature. There is also a fair amount of "lint" under the loom which may indicate a loose spinning.

              Best Uses

              • Baby Blanket
              • Towels

Comments about VALLEY YARNS 6/2 Unmercerized Cotton:

Just made a rosepath baby blanket - great to work with, very soft, fuzzes a bit. Washed it with a color catching cloth (used teal, lilac, jade, light blue) and hardly any color came off. Don't know how it will stand up to use with a baby, time will tell. I like that it's unmercerized in this size.
