Product Details
Otto, a cute baby polar bear, is knit without seams on double pointed needles. Otto was designed to be round and cuddly but still easy for little hands to grasp. He knits up quickly and the size can be varied by changing the weight of yarn used. Otto would make a wonderful gift for any kid or adult.
This pattern is available as a PDF download.
Finished Measurements: Small Otto is approximately 12” tall and Large Otto is approximately 21” tall
Yarn Requirements:
Large: 230yds Blue Sky Fibers Organic Worsted Cotton (100% Organic Cotton; 100g/150yds) shown in #80 Bone
Small: 165yds Valley Yarns Valley Superwash DK (100% Extra Fine Superwash Merino Wool; 50g/137yds)
Small amount of darker yarn for embroidering eyes and nose, for a toy that won’t be played with by babies or young children you could use toy safety eyes.
Needles:
US 2½ (3.00mm) DPNs for smaller bear knit with DK weight yarn or
US 6 (4.00mm) DPNs for larger bear knit with worsted weight yarn
Gauge:
Small: 26 sts and 36 rounds = 4” in stockinette
Large: 20 sts and 24 rounds = 4” in stockinette
Gauge is not crucial. The most important thing is to work Otto at a relatively tight gauge to create a firm fabric without holes that the stuffing can poke through. If you are using a different yarn weight you should use needles to achieve a tighter than recommended gauge.
