Custom Top-Down Socks
Top-down socks are not only fun to knit, but offer several advantages to the knitter: it's easy to try it on as you knit to ensure a well-fitted calf, and to gauge the length of the foot from the heel. Learn how to knit a perfect top-down sock every time from measurements with a few simple calculations. In the first class, students and instructor will talk about appropriate yarn for the knitter's project (sock yarn, DK, or worsted) as some knitters want thick socks and some want thin. Then you'll look for the perfect yarn for your project in the store. Starting with a great cast-on technique for stretchy ribbing, students will learn how to knit to measurements, how to turn a heel and fit a foot perfectly, and finally, conquer Kitchener stitch! You must be able to knit competently on double-pointed needles for success in this class. Pre-requisite: Knitting II.
