Schacht Cricket Loom

$175.00 Each

This item is out of stock or you are ordering more items than currently in stock.

The Schacht Cricket Loom is compact, capable and cute! It is available in both a 10” weaving width size and a 15” weaving width size. The Cricket is made of high quality apple ply and hard maple, and is left unfinished. As of April 2010, the Cricket has been redesigned with the ratchet gear and dog on the outside of the loom to make it even easier to adjust tension.

The 10” Cricket measures only 11" x 18" x 6" and at just under four pounds, it's easy to take along. The 10” weaving width gives you plenty of room to make a variety of projects without sacrificing portability.

The 15” Cricket is 5.5” wider than the 10” loom, yet is still compact enough to be easily portable. The additional width offers more flexibility in your choice of weaving projects. The 15” Cricket Loom uses the same reeds as the Schacht 15” Flip Rigid Heddle Loom.

Both sizes of Cricket Looms come with an 8-dent reed (sorry, no substitutions). Also included are a threading hook, warping peg, table clamps, two shuttles, and two balls of yarn. The 10” pick-up stick is just the right width for the 10” loom and additional 10” shuttles are also available.

First time weaver and was able to take out of the box and assemble easily. Have first project started with yarn included and love it so far. Looking forward to making many more lovely woven gifts.

Since I am a person with physical limitations, I sometimes find it hard to sit with no back support. This little loom can sit on my lap in a comfortable chair and I can weave away! This loom is also really good for sampling weaves and doing hand manipulated weaves.

I am learning to weave taking online classes, so far easy and fun to use. I am making scarves and washcloths. However, I have a lot of project in mind.

Had a slight issue with my loom piece-wise, but Schacht customer service was excellent and helped with replacement. The instructions on warping could have been a bit clearer - the photos were rather small - but their youtube videos helped. I'm looking forward to using it. I found it easier to brace it to the table, and work standing up. I'm already looking at other projects to start.

I purchased the 10" Cricket shortly before the Schacht introduced the 15" version. I selected it, after having researched several looms, because it served my purpose, which is to make scarves for charities. The included 8 dent heddle was a perfect size for worsted yarn. Since then I purchased the 12 dent so I can make scarves with fingering weight yarn.

It's a great loom for beginners, which I was when I got it. Fairly easy to assemble and there are some good videos for the Cricket on YouTube, including a 6-part one showing how to warp and weave. That was a big help for me. I like it too because I can sit in a recliner with the loom on my lap and weave. It helps to be tall so you have the thigh room for the loom.

Now I'm considering getting the 15" model so I can make larger projects. I highly recommend the Cricket.

I had never done weaving before, but was able to put the loom together, and start warping, and weaving, on the first day. I had finished my first project within a day. The results helped me figure out how to choose the best yarn to achieve what I wanted. It has certainly gotten me interested in learning more, and I will eventually, want to buy a more versatile loom, which will allow me to make larger, and more varied, things.
