I would love to test drive different yarns but I have so many other projects in the works and in my mind.
I think I sent this message before finishing. If I deleted it by accident, I will condense my thoughts . Tahki tweed is a lovely yarn, not only vibrant colors but easy to knit and the “specks” of colors stay put, not in the case with some other yarns. At this point in my life (83 yrs in August) I decided to only purchase materials that are machine washable.( I do a lot of sewing and only use fabric that can go in the washer). I want to be able to pop it in the washer if needed. I do like M. Rios and am working on a sweater , color magenta and stunning.. I n a nutshell I don’t want to be a “slave” to my clothing. I plan to use the tweed I still have to knit hats and scarves, both easy to hand wash and not apt to soil quickly. I must tell you that I love WEBS and the best selection of yarn anywhere. I spend ALOT of time browsing through your inventory. I started knitting at 18 yrs old : Irish knits and so many Lopi sweaters, basic outerwear and Xmas stockings (decorative) for many family members, probably between 30 and 50. To conclude, I am so glad a friend recommended WEBS years ago. Sincerely Linda Knapman
Tahki donegal tweed has been a standard for years. It has wonderful colours. It knits into a warm garment
Tahki Donegal Tweed Yarn - I have been knitting happily with this yarn for years. It is a beautiful yarn, knits up easily and comes in great colors. I have mostly used Donegal Tweed for ponchos. They hold their shape and beautiful color for years.
It’s very scratchy. It feels like twine. It also breaks easily. You don’t even have to cut it. I washed the knitted piece and it softened slightly. The color is beautiful and rich.
It's too scratchy to wear.
This yarn perfectly matched some I bought in Ireland. Now I can replace the mitten I lost.
This is old-school tweedy yarn. At first touch, it feels a bit scratchy, but the fabric seems a bit softer. Nobody is going to want to wear this next to the skin, but it looks and feels like the yarns my mother used to knit with from Ireland, and I have no doubt that the sweater will be warm and wear like iron.
I was trying to match an Irish wool yarn. My mom brought me from the north of Ireland several years ago. Amazingly, this yarn match perfectly in color and weight! I was able to finish my project and you can’t even tell it was finished off with a skein of yarn purchased years later.
This yarn is so beautiful! I ordered the green, and it looked exactly how I expected when I received it. It was my first time working with single ply homespun yarn, and it took some getting used to. There’s virtually no stretch when working. I just make sure let it flow freely through my fingers. It looks so beautiful in stockinette! The stitches lay flat and smooth while still having a charming homespun look. It also has a nice sheen. Be warned, this yarn is not soft at all! It’s plain old wool after all. But I made some awesome fingerless mitts out of it that are super warm and cozy! I recommend it with that in mind.
