*This class fulfills the Design Exploration Requirement for WEKP.
Together we will design hats, learning about all aspects of the 4 main hat constructions (beanie, sloch, beret/tam and pillbox) plus unique alternatives. We will study the different types of brims, the impact of increases and decreases on different shaped hat bodies, and go over many different types of crown shapings. We will learn the math formulas that help determine shaping, how to figure out gauge for hard to measure patterns, and even touch briefly on how to size our hats into different sizes in order to make them fit whomever we want to make them for. Appropriate for those looking to design hats professionally as well as for those just wanting to design hats for their friends and family, students will walk out of the final class with a finished original hat, plus an understanding of how to make more!
