#56 Advancing Networked Twill Shawl on 8-Shafts PDF
Equipment: 8-shaft loom, 18.75–21.1” weaving width; 1 shuttle, temple (optional, but helpful)
Finished Size: 17¾” x 72” plus fringe, sett 22½ epi; 20” x 72”, or desired length, sett 20 epi. Don’t be concerned about where you end in the treadling—it won’t be apparent if you don’t complete a repeat!
Warp & Weft Yarn: Valley Yarns 2/14 Alpaca Silk (80% Alpaca/20% Silk, 3472 YPP), one cone each of Whipple Blue (warp) and Pacific (weft).
Warp Length: 4 yards
Warp Ends: 422, including floating selvages. This is approximately two-and-one-half repeats of the threading. The draft shows one repeat. If you want a wider fabric, wind more ends and stop threading when you run out of ends! This is your warp and you can do whatever you want with it.
Sett: 22½ or 20 epi in a 10-dent reed. At 22½ epi it is easy to get a nice even beat, but the fabric is a tad heavy for a shawl. At 20 epi, the fabric has a wonderful hand, but it is harder to get an even beat.
This draft is available as a downloadable PDF.
