This is not a "Pattern," it is a "Licensing Agreement"

Comments about VALLEY YARNS #125 Tartan Mitten & Scarf Set:

I met the woman who designed these mittens at the Vermont Sheep and Wool Festival and promised her I'd buy the pattern/instructions for making them, since I found them charming. Understand, I did not need to do this. Patterns for fabric mittens are all over the internet. I don't regret supporting her art, this is a clever idea, adding a knit component, and well detailed in these instructions. HOWEVER. This is NOT a pattern. It is LICENSING AGREEMENT and the two are not the same. Had I NOT purchased this pattern I would be free to create my own riff on this without any problems at all. I intend to change the cuff, and likely alter the construction to amuse myself and use Johnson Woolen Mill fabric instead of weaving my own... it being infinitely cheaper in the event of errors in construction. And then, because this is the sort of thing I do, I intend(ed) to sell the mittens. According to this LICENSING AGREEMENT I can't sell what I make. Had I known this limitation I would not have bought this "pattern." So. What WEBs is selling here is NOT a Pattern, it is labeled inaccurately and, in my opinion, it is disingenuous for the limitations to be given only after the document has been purchased. This is a Licensing Agreement. Whether or not it is an enforceable licensing agreement is open to question, given that this is not articulated prior to sale. Nevertheless.. buyer beware.
