I usually hate knitting with cotton yarn, but I have loved the Captiva by Berroco. It's smooth and easy to knit with, it doesn't split and hasn't been rough on my hands. It's a flat shape, which has made it fast to knit with and it stays put on my needles. I made a lovely Spring/Summer A-line shirt with lace detailing on the neck and the metallic shine on the pear color made this shirt just pop! I've had tons of compliments and several offers to purchase the top. It's gorgeous and I love the drape and shine.

I would not recommend this yarn, in spite of the fact that I found it easy to work with ONCE it was in usable form, and the finished scarf I made was lovely. Simply because all of the 4 hanks I purchased were snarled rats nests... this is AFTER I unwound, untied and laid flat... the resulting large loop was a series of intertwined loops that were impossible to separate. It took as long to untangle this mess as to knit my item. This is a yarn for looks rather than feel. Not ok for baby items. It has beautiful stitch definition and a glossy textured look. Lovely colors. No splitting, easy to spot a mistake. What a shame. 5 star yarn in 0 star form. But I would not reward Berroco for this abominable presentation by buying again.

Comments about BERROCO Captiva:

Beautiful drape and easy to work with. I have knitted several summer tops with Captiva and they hold their shape well. I was sorry to learn that the Captiva Metalic has been discontinued but will definitely purchase the regular Captiva again. Service is quick and yarn is received in a few days

Comments about BERROCO Captiva:

I knitted an over-the-head cropped see-through top to wear to a wedding. Altho' I wore it later to another event and received great compliments. It is fun to knit and has a bit of shine to it that dresses it up. Love it.

    Comments about BERROCO Captiva:

I have knitted with this yarn in many colors. The aqua blue, the sapphire blue, honey, sage, black, lavender and magenta. It's a great choice for summer scarves in wide open lacey patterns. Generally I have used two skeins to make a summer scarf that wraps twice and is about 5 or 6 inches wide.

      Comments about BERROCO Captiva:

I saw a number of people complaining about the slipperiness of this yarn and their inability to untangle it and roll into a ball. The yarn is looped around and around in a circle, like you'd do with a hose or an extension cord, and then its twisted. Remove the label, untwist it, untie the knot that holds the two ends together, put your feet on the chair in front of you, put the big circle over your knees, and begin rolling it into a ball. Wrap some around two fingers a few times, remove it to form a little blob, and keep wrapping.

I'm working on a tank top or something that I've started and taken apart several times now. I'm on my third variation. The yarn comes apart easily and hasn't frayed. Frankly, I'm amazed. Very impressed.
