This was used in 3 different shawls of 1000+ yards. I never really had a problem with it other then it likes to grab on to other stitches as you rip out rows. I expected this though. I'm not sure where the other one star ratings came from. I've used this plenty of times and have never had a problem. Its very durable once knit up as long as you're not dragging it along a bed of nails. Its also extremely soft. There have been instances where I have gotten some plant fibers in the yarn but those were easy to pick out.

Alpaca fiber should be soft, buttery and delicious to knit with. This yarn has none of those properties. Its beautiful in the skein, but once you start to knit, its poor quality is evident. Likely made from low grade alpaca. Do yourself a favor and purchase a superfine baby alpaca yarn - you will have a much better knitting experience.

Baby Alpaca = Baby Soft

      Comments about 5.50 Alpaca Lace:

Used this yarn double stranded for 2 shawls and 1 cowl. All are butter soft and as one client put it "baby soft". The fine nature of this yarn requires patience, especially double stranded, but the final product is well worth it.

Headline is true. Used as 1 of 2 or 3 strands is wonderful.

          Comments about 5.50 Alpaca Lace:

I've actually finished knitting and am now using non stop, the Plymouth Grande yarn afghan. The yarn is variegated and took a lot of trying out stitch patterns to find one I liked. I really like the way it turned out. I love its warmth and softness. I've almost finished a fine gauge (#2 needle] shawl that is in garter stitch with 3 strands of Madelinetosh. It is a very long rectangle and about 18 inches wide - made longitudinally - 660 stitches per row. I made a similar one last year and love using it - beautiful and warm. It was in Malabrigo. The feel of the Malabrigo shawl is softer and maybe a tad less pliable than the Madelinetosh shawl. I knit it on #1 needles. I wanted colors not available in the Malabrigo this time. Other yarns? Have wound hanks into balls. Have tried out stitch patterns and gauges until liking one. Lovely yarns that are carefully stored and ready for next projects. Mary Morrison

I used a similar color of Malabrigo together with the Alpaca (and #4 circular needle) to make a little heavier shawl.
Love the results. Price and quality of both are very good.

I've used this yarn for several scarves including a lacy patterned one and was very happy with the results. With the great color selection, and lightweight softness, I will use again.
