I love the dark blue/green color but it bled onto my hands while I was knitting. I have used Silky Alpaca before in lighter colors and never had this problem. Webs advised me to do a vinegar wash on the yarn, but I should not have to do that.. I guess a test swatch is in my future.

I really do love the loft, weight, feel and sheen of the Silky Alpaca and hope this was just a bad batch. I am not giving up on a product I have enjoyed so much in the past.

Comments about CLASSIC ELITE YARNS Silky Alpaca Lace:

Although this yarn is beautiful, I am not sure I would buy it again. There were SIX breaks in the yarn on one skein! Unacceptable. Also, the yarn did not spit splice well, so I had to try and hide all those ends in a delicate lace project. Although I was happy with the end result, I was not happy paying full price for yarn with so many breaks. I would not recommend this yarn.

I have only used this for weft thus far, but it should be equally suitable as warp. The other two yarns mentioned are my warp.

Comments about CLASSIC ELITE YARNS Silky Alpaca Lace:

I know that this is lace weight, but it was on sale in the warehouse and the colors were lovely so I bought 4 colorways and have started knitting Cat Bordi's socks. It took me a while to get an even stitch, but I am about halfway through one sock and I thing they will even out after blocking and will be lovely to wear in the warmer months.

This yarn draws comments and people asking if they can touch the work. They all comment on the silky feel, softness and wonderful colors. Compliments come whenever I wear something made with it. I've
worked it as is and have also doubled it.
Working with it is a dream.

The only complaint I have is I want some of all the colors, both solid and mixed color style. Have received many compliments both for completed projects and in-progress work.

Customer service is also very good.

Comments about CLASSIC ELITE YARNS Silky Alpaca Lace:

This has been one of my favorite yarns for several years now. I really like the blend of fibers (alpaca and silk) for their warmth, and this yarn has a lovely subtle sheen. I have never used it alone, always in combination with other yarns, but I am certain that its smooth, even texture would work up to a beautiful lacy scarf or hat. I have included it in hats, scarves, and a sweater vest, among other things, and have always been very pleased with the results. I like to mix yarns to produce a more interesting color, or one that is more pleasing to me, and this is very often my "go-to" yarn for that purpose. I have also paired it with a wool yarn for felting. It doesn't felt as well as the wool, so it ends up being slightly nubby on the felted surface, but that was a beautiful effect, and I was very pleased with it. I appreciate the quality of this yarn. I've never had a knot mid-strand, though I suppose it could happen. The yarn is perfectly smooth and even, and very easy to work with (no twisting or knotting up). The yardage is ample, and the colors are luscious. It has worn very well in the items that have received heavy use (hats and scarves and a sweater). Classic Elite does tend to discontinue their variegated yarns rather quickly (similar to hand painted yarns), so if you find one you really like, it is best to go ahead and purchase as much of it as you need/want, as you might not be able to find it again later (I have a lovely, but lonely, single skein of a green/purple/navy blend that was gone when I went back for more).
